Mr. Pumpkin on Saturday

Mr. Pumpkins latest measurement. He's looking very round today.

Here's a picture of Mr. Pumpkin with goggles on. Just so you have something to compare him to.

This is a picture of some bees that work all day long in our yard. If it weren't for the wonderful bees, Mr. Pumpkin wouldn't even be here!

This is what pumpkin seeds do eight weeks after you plant them.
Remember, this is only from 7 little seeds!

Here is a different view of our yellow monster (don't worry, pumpkins like to be called "monster").

Big, Bad Fay!

This has been day two of torrential rain from tropical storm Fay. I wouldn't even go outside to take Mr. Pumpkin's picture, Farmer John had to do it. It's hard to tell from this picture but the stem is near the 16" mark. He looks bigger and rounder than ever. I think that he's enjoying all this rain very much. Drink up all the rain
Mr. Pumpkin, you are looking fine!

Changes for Mr. Pumpkin

Today our large friend measured in at 29 1/8 inches. He has also had to deal with some changes. Farmer John buried his vine with good soil to help him grow some more roots so that he can eat and drink even more! He is also now resting on a little bed of sand to keep insects that may hurt him far away. They do not like sand. Insects prefer the damp grass.

Farmer John also asked that we not move Mr. Pumpkin to measure him. I was lifting him up to get the tape measure around him but he is concerned that I may break Mr. Pumpkins stem. We don't even want to discuss that! From now on, I will measure him from top stem to bottom stem. He measured 14 inches from stem to stem today.

Grow, Mr. Pumpkin, Grow!

Mr. Pumpkin is sure enjoying the rain today. He is 27 1/4 inches
of wonderful roundness. He's grown 4 1/4 inches in 1 day!

Mr. Pumpkin was 23 inches yesterday.

No Name #3

I am just a baby but soon I will be as large as Mr. Pumpkin.
They call me Number 3 but I would also like a real name.
Something pumpkinish would be nice.
(Look, I still have my flower attached.)

No Name #2

Hi, I may be small but I need a name soon.
I am pumpkin number 2.

Today's progress

Wow! Mr. Pumpkin grew over 3" since yesterday!

overnight!

Mr. Pumpkin measured in at 16 1/2" today.
He was only 13 1/4" yesterday.

Mr. Pumpkin

Mr. Pumpkin started out as a seed. A very large seed. Only 6 others came in the package with him. He started off as a very pretty green plant but then the leaves got very large. Then there were huge orange flowers. Then, there was a little ball on the bottom of one of the flowers. Then, the ball started to grow! We have been so excited at how fast this plant is growing that we've been been spending a lot of time tracking it's progress. This is where we almost had to give our new little pumpkin a name. There you go! That's Mr. Pumpkins story so far.

This is our first time growing one of these Giant Pumpkins. We would appreciate any guidance.

Please stop by from time to time to visit Mr. Pumpkin.
