The "Procedure"

Well, we did it. We carved Mr. Pumpkin.
Here he is with a little friend.

Here is Little Seedling digging out his "innings",
as she likes to call it.

This is how thick Mr. Pumpkin's skin is.

Here is one of Mr. Pumpkin's seeds compared to an average pumpkin seed. Mr. Pumpkin is obviously NOT average!

We've cut Mr. Pumpkin off his vine!

Hello to all of Mr. Pumpkin's friends. We have cut him from his vine tonight. I don't know if I should be happy or sad. It's been so much fun watching him grow. The fun has not ended though. This is the best time of year for a pumpkin.

Mr. Pumpkin has been loaded in my car. Can you guess where he might be going?

Mr. Pumpkin is tired.

Here is our big guy. He measured in at 68" today. Up only 1" from last weekend!
As you can see, he's not exactly small.
We were wishing that he'd get much bigger.

Wow, today is the day!!!!!

Well, here it is! Today is the day that the measuring tape got too small for Mr. Pumpkin. We knew that it would come, but who knew that it would be this soon? I gave him a big hug and an encouraging speech today. He looks wonderful. We just need a new way to measure him. Any ideas out there? (Lifting him is NOT an option.)

Brothers. Here are King Kong and Mr. Pumpkin. Mr. Pumpkin is the lighter one. King Kong is turning very orange.

Here is little Sprout. He's looking great. Small, but pink and very happy.

Who is this little guy? He's green!

Go, Pumpkin, Go!

Today, Mr. Pumpkin was 54½ " around! He listened to a little John Mayer today and seemed to really enjoy it. Grow, big guy, grow!

I am sorry to report that Sprout has a bug problem. Something has decided to bore a hole into him. We are very sad about this. If anyone knows what to do about this PLEASE write back with the remedy. ANY help would be appreciated.

This is a new little friend that my daughter found in our garden. He sat on her shoulder for a long time.

I will post more information about the three new pumpkins very soon.
Thanks again to all who participated. I think that all three are very happy with their

Mr. Pumpkin on Saturday

Mr. Pumpkins latest measurement. He's looking very round today.

Here's a picture of Mr. Pumpkin with goggles on. Just so you have something to compare him to.

This is a picture of some bees that work all day long in our yard. If it weren't for the wonderful bees, Mr. Pumpkin wouldn't even be here!

This is what pumpkin seeds do eight weeks after you plant them.
Remember, this is only from 7 little seeds!

Big, Bad Fay!

This has been day two of torrential rain from tropical storm Fay. I wouldn't even go outside to take Mr. Pumpkin's picture, Farmer John had to do it. It's hard to tell from this picture but the stem is near the 16" mark. He looks bigger and rounder than ever. I think that he's enjoying all this rain very much. Drink up all the rain
Mr. Pumpkin, you are looking fine!

Changes for Mr. Pumpkin

Today our large friend measured in at 29 1/8 inches. He has also had to deal with some changes. Farmer John buried his vine with good soil to help him grow some more roots so that he can eat and drink even more! He is also now resting on a little bed of sand to keep insects that may hurt him far away. They do not like sand. Insects prefer the damp grass.

Farmer John also asked that we not move Mr. Pumpkin to measure him. I was lifting him up to get the tape measure around him but he is concerned that I may break Mr. Pumpkins stem. We don't even want to discuss that! From now on, I will measure him from top stem to bottom stem. He measured 14 inches from stem to stem today.

Grow, Mr. Pumpkin, Grow!

Mr. Pumpkin is sure enjoying the rain today. He is 27 1/4 inches
of wonderful roundness. He's grown 4 1/4 inches in 1 day!

Mr. Pumpkin was 23 inches yesterday.
